“Music is the greatest communication in the world. Even if people don't understand the language that you're singing in, they still know good music when they hear it.”

- Lou Rawls

The Marcsmen is the performing name for the SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, CHAPTER OF SPEBSQSA, INC (Barbershop Harmony Society), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1938 consisting of approximately 22,000 members in choruses and quartets across North America!

About Us

Formed in 2008 in San Marcos, Texas, the Marcsmen were made up mostly of Texas State University students who wanted to enter the inaugural Barbershop Harmony Society Youth Chorus competition in 2008. 28 members took the stage for that contest under the direction of Brent Dunavant and were awarded the trophy as the overall winner.

Over the last 13 years we have earned five runner-up finishes in district competition, district championships in 2012, 2018, 2019, and five top-20 finishes at the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Competition.

International appearances:

2011 - Kansas City, Missouri - 20th place

2013 - Toronto, Ontario - 13th place

2015 - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - 20th place

2018 - Orlando, Florida - 13th place

2019 - Salt Lake City, Utah - 11th place with a score of 85.2, our highest score ever!

We won our third, and back-to-back, Southwestern District championship in 2019 that earned us a berth to the BHS international competition in Charlotte, NC in 2022!
